ABOUT US

We, at Bugacpuszta Lodge, are 100 % nature lovers and birdwatchers.  Years ago, we were convinced about the richness of the Hungarian bird life. Several travels through the country only proved this.

It was mainly the Kiskunság national park that charmed us the most.  The typical Hungarian puszta landscapes, featuring a not less typical bird life, were an immediate hit for us.

Quite fast we realized: this is the area where we want to live, where we want to receive people and introduce them to the natural richness of the area.  Because Hungary is so much more than the (rightly so) famous Hortobágy.

By the way, talking about 'us'.  We are Stijn Burggraeve en Mieke Vanwalleghem, since childhood nature lovers in heart and soul.

Stijn: "I have been raised with birds.  Ringing birds with my father Jan, be it the weekly nestling checks in nestboxes, or barn swallows on their late summer roosting places.  My uncle Guido took us through the nature reserve Zwin, where nobody talked more entertaining about the life of – let' s say – black-headed gull or common shelduck, to name only two."

Mieke: "I was intrigued by animals since childhood.  Everything that moved appeared interesting to me.  To learn more about the wonderful world of animals and their natural environment, I became member of the local nature youth association De Stekker(tje)s in Oostkamp."

This is where we met, and ever since our ways have been inseparable. Sweden, France, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Argentina, Falkland Islands,...  Wherever we have been, birds have been our main goal.  We just hope that we can convince you all that Hungary also deserves it's place in the birding hotspot list.
